This was reported by the scientific director of NIKIET Evgeny Adamov, RIA Novosti reports.
In the process of developing the Moon, energy will be needed, the source of which could be a nuclear power plant.
But, as the scientist emphasizes, we are talking about an unattended and self-regulating object.
A compact nuclear power plant will power a lunar base. The scientist presented a project called "Selena".
At the initial stage, the capacity of the station, which weighs one and a half tons, will be estimated at 3–5 kW.
If the lunar base develops, then the nuclear power plant will grow along with it.
At the second stage, its capacity will be increased to half a megawatt, and the mass of the installation will reach 12 tons.
According to Roscosmos plans, a nuclear power plant could be delivered to the Moon in 2033–2035. The corporation intends to implement this project jointly with China.
The development of the corresponding equipment is already underway, the head of the company, Yuri Borisov, reported in May 2024.
