The Anatomy of a Lie: 3 Signs Someone Is Lying to You

A number of studies prove that the average person lies about 1-2 times a day.

For the good, intentionally - we will leave this out of consideration today.

Now we are only interested in the signs and triggers of lies. Let's figure them out together with Ainur Zinnatullin , a speaker on communications.

The first sign is a deep breath in and a deep breath out.

July 1913, Vittorio Benussi, a brilliant scientist and artist, uses machines to try to reach the depths of the human soul and invents a lie detector.

But while his colleagues do the same, relying on pulse and pressure, he relies on breathing. In an article with the beautiful title "Breathing symptoms of lying" he identifies two signs of lying - a long inhalation - an echo of the truth and an extended exhalation - a prelude to lying.

This may also indicate that you have touched on a difficult, emotional topic in the conversation that the person does not want to reveal or is thus taking a pause to construct an answer. Each case must be considered separately.

The second sign is looking at the upper right corner

There is a zone of fiction and fantasy. If during a dialogue the interlocutor looks there (for you it is a mirror on the left side) - he is lying or not telling the whole truth.

By the way, if he looks at the upper left corner, he remembers events that actually happened.

The third sign is the absence of immanence

Immanence is an organic, natural state. In the context of communication, this means that words and behavior are equivalent.

For example, if a person talks about something sad, his face expresses this through lowered corners of the lips, a downward glance, and other signs. And vice versa, in the case of a lie, a person talks about a joyful event and at the same time his gaze is dull.

To sum it up: if a person “says” the same thing verbally and non-verbally, it’s true; if it’s different, it’s a lie.

And remember that any model, rules are a simplified version of reality that cannot describe all the nuances. But if there are at least 75% of "hits", then it is already worth listening to!
