A person's attractiveness is a fairly subjective factor.
However, scientists have managed to find one trait that significantly increases the level of attractiveness in the eyes of others.
The authors of the study published their findings in the British Journal of Social Psychology .
Scientists have found that beauty in the eyes of another person is determined by such a trait as prosociality.
Prosociality includes:
- ability to empathize;
- kindness;
- support and care;
- the ability to benefit other people.
To reach this conclusion, the authors of the study showed photographs of people to the subjects.
After showing the photographs, they gave a brief description of each person, telling which of those depicted has high intelligence, who does volunteer work, who charms others with their sense of humor, etc.
It turned out that the subjects recognized prosocial personalities as more physically attractive. They were able to bypass even those qualities that were usually valued above others, such as intelligence and a sense of humor.
