But if a resignation statement initiated by an employee is sometimes unexpected, then the desire of a boss to get rid of a subordinate is usually not sudden.
Competent managers often begin to prepare an undesirable employee for the fact that they may have to part with him. What phrases can be called "preparatory"?
"Maybe you should look for yourself in another field?"
Yes, it is too straightforward and rude, but it is honest. Of course, if there are no legal reasons for dismissal, no one will invent them.
But it is possible to create an unpleasant atmosphere at work. And when a person gets tired of moral pressure, his boss calls him and says this phrase.
Moreover, it sounds with sincere care and attention. He carefully pushes his subordinate to the only right decision. Especially if he really can't cope with his duties, gets tired, makes a lot of mistakes, doesn't fulfill the plan, drags the entire department down, etc.
"Sasha, Vasya and Natasha have excellent results, you can't cope alone!"
Here we already hear a reproach, but again with a hint: if the others work without problems, but one worker has constant shortcomings, then this is a reason to think.
Most likely, he is not being fired for one simple reason: there are no suitable candidates to replace him.
And the very fact that a person is compared to others says a lot. An unpleasant aftertaste and a bad mood are guaranteed: everyone knows this from school years.

If the employer has already decided that he wants to part ways with the subordinate, then he gradually distances him from the team.
He is not invited to weekly meetings, given the simplest tasks to complete, excluded from the mailing list or from the work chat.
On the one hand, this may be nice: they don't burden you anymore, you can calmly focus on your direct responsibilities. But on the other hand, everything is transparent and clear: the employee's days in this position are numbered.
Thus, if the boss starts a conversation with a hint to “find yourself” or “engage in self-development,” then this is not even a hint.
This is a frank admission that the person is not particularly welcome in the office.
The reasons may be different: he didn't fit into the team, he can't cope with his responsibilities. It is important that if he writes a letter of resignation of his own free will, they will definitely not persuade or beg him.
This is probably what the manager is expecting: it is not so easy to fire someone for cause, you will have to do a lot of paperwork, which takes a lot of time. But when an employee quits on his own, then everyone ends up in the black, especially from the financial side.
There is only one thing left: to competently and correctly lead him to making a decision. So that the departure is not sudden, but the person himself understands: he must move on.
