Maria Zakharova spoke about the European region, where the situation is beginning to take serious turns.
The official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Moldovan President Maia Sandu intends to carry out a bold move with regard to Transnistria.
Zakharova said that the energy crisis in the country will serve as the reason for the politician, RIA Novosti reports.
This will be a pretext for a forceful solution to the “Transnistrian issue,” the diplomat emphasized.
If Sandu goes all the way on this issue, a new hotbed of instability could emerge in Europe.
Chisinau is already accusing Moscow of stopping gas supplies and is considering the option of forcibly seizing the power plant in Transnistria, Zakharova said.
The agency representative added that all this information is known to the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service.
She added that in such a situation, Russian peacekeepers could be under threat.
The residents of Transnistria themselves could effectively become “hostages,” Zakharova stated.
Russia and other members of the world community must monitor what is happening in the republic.
And the residents of Moldova themselves should “ask questions” about whether they need instability, the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded.
