As Maria Zakharova emphasized, Russia will not leave the hostile steps that Britain is taking towards it unanswered.

The Russian Foreign Ministry received a question about whether the information that unnamed employees of the British embassy in Moscow were engaged in intelligence and subversive activities and were stripped of their diplomatic status as a result was reliable.
Zakharova confirmed this information, noting that the FSB of Russia gave such an assessment of the diplomats' activities. She emphasized that Moscow will not tolerate unauthorized activities of foreign intelligence services.
The official representative of the Foreign Office of the Russian Federation also noted that such activities and other hostile actions by Great Britain will continue to be nipped in the bud.
The decision to expel British diplomats also became a mirror response to the restriction on the accreditation period of Russian diplomats, as a result of which the diplomatic mission staff had to leave London.
