State Duma deputies approved in the first reading a bill banning public propaganda of childfree ideology.
This bill proposes to ban the promotion of childbirth refusal in public spaces.
State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin emphasized that this is specifically about a ban on the propaganda of refusing to have children, NTV reports.
He noted that only a woman can make decisions about children.
Volodin added that there should be no pressure on women to have children.
During today’s meeting, Volodin recalled the film “Intergirl” by Pyotr Todorovsky.
He believes that it was with this painting that the collapse of the Soviet Union began.
Volodin said: “Everyone applauded the film Intergirl, there were lines at the cinema, but in the end the USSR ceased to exist.”
According to Volodin, the bill was developed to create a unified legal framework for the protection of children, families and traditional values.
