The US diplomatic representative in Russia spoke about the goals of Washington's sanctions against Moscow.
Ambassador Lynn Tracy assures that the restrictions are not directed against ordinary Russian citizens.
In an interview with the RTVI YouTube channel, the diplomat stated that the purpose of the sanctions is to weaken Russia’s military-industrial complex (MIC).
Tracy emphasized that Washington's measures are aimed at a political and economic blow to the Russian Armed Forces and the structures that support the functioning of the army.
The ambassador added that the US sanctions were not developed against Russians. There was no goal to punish or make their lives more difficult, the diplomat asserts.
She also said that it was too early to judge the effectiveness of the measures introduced. She pointed out that sanctions cannot be compared to a conventional light switch.
The restrictions introduced today may not come into full effect until some time has passed, i.e. months or even years.
In the future, the US intends to focus on sanctions that will be aimed at weakening Russia's military potential, Tracy emphasized.
Earlier it became known that the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the expulsion of a Romanian diplomat.
