The UN Secretary General made this statement at a plenary session dedicated to the day of struggle for the total elimination of nuclear weapons, RIA Novosti reports.
Guterres stressed that nuclear weapons pose grave existential risks to all humanity. Yet, to this day, the world is no closer to eliminating dangerous arsenals.
Moreover, 10 years ago, the Secretary General believes, the situation with nuclear weapons was better.
Guterres stressed that the UN is concerned about the growing danger of a new arms race.
That is why, the official believes, the United States and Russia must return to the process of reducing their nuclear arsenals. The same applies to other states possessing nuclear weapons, which he called on to follow their example.
