US President-elect Donald Trump has appointed Senator Marco Rubio as the new Secretary of State.
Rubio is known for his hard-line stance on China, Cuba and Iran.
He is also a vocal advocate for stricter policies on data and app security, the Associated Press reports.
Rubio serves as vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee and is a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee.
He was one of the finalists for Trump's vice presidential nomination in 2016.
Since then, Rubio has changed his position and gone from being a critic to a leading supporter of the president.
Trump stressed that Rubio will be a strong defender of the interests of the United States and its allies. He is ready to confront external threats.
The President noted that the new Secretary of State will continue to fight for the country's national interests.
Trump made the announcement after meeting with President Joe Biden and returning to Florida.
