The UN special rapporteur has spoken out harshly about the West, using its policies towards Russia and Israel as an example.
Western states have been exposed for double standards and hypocrisy.
A statement on this matter was made by the UN Special Rapporteur on the promotion of a democratic and equitable international order, George Katrougalos, RIA Novosti reports.
He noted that the West has imposed numerous sanctions on Russia, but has not taken any measures against Israel in the context of its actions in the Gaza Strip.
Katrougalos called it a clear example of double standards and hypocrisy.
In his opinion, the same rules apply in these situations, but they are applied differently.
The Special Rapporteur stressed that the civilian population of the Gaza Strip suffered far greater losses as a result of Israel's actions.
Katrougalos believes that a lenient attitude towards Israel and a tough confrontation with Russia will become a source of serious disagreement between the West and the Global South.
Some politicians believe that Israel should be held accountable for its actions in Gaza, including through sanctions and legal proceedings within the international system.
