The State Duma Committee on State Building approved a new amendment.
The amendment establishes rules for foreigners who are in Russia.
If they cooperate with other countries against Russia's security, they face punishment, according to a document posted in the State Duma's electronic database.
Foreigners who work with representatives of other countries against the Russian Federation may be punished. The terms vary up to 8 years.
In particular, foreigners face imprisonment for a term of three to eight years. They can also receive a fine of up to one million rubles.
In some cases, foreign citizens may be subject to a restriction of freedom for up to two years or without such punishment.
The State Duma emphasized that the law is aimed at protecting Russia’s security.
