In the lower house of the Russian parliament, the Turkish leader was called an inconsistent and “flexible” politician.

A member of the State Duma Defense Committee, Andrey Kolesnik, shared a comment on this topic.

In a conversation with Lenta.ru , he made it clear that Recep Tayyip Erdogan is not a reliable ally of the Russian Federation.

Kolesnik noted that in some issues Türkiye supports Russia, but the leader of the republic constantly maneuvers and says what is beneficial to him.

The deputy pointed out that Erdogan made the statement about Crimea at the end of the tourist season. He took into account previous experience, when the Turkish budget revenues fell due to a drop in tourist flow from the Russian Federation.

At the same time, shortly before this, Ankara announced its desire to join BRICS. Now Erdogan’s statement looks inconsistent and anti-Russian.

Kolesnik believes that there will be no global negative consequences in relations between Russia and Turkey, but some changes are likely.

What Erdogan said about Crimea

Recently, the President of Turkey stated that he does not recognize the Crimean peninsula as part of Russia.

As Erdogan explained, his position is supported by “norms of international law.”

In 2023, the Turkish leader emphasized that Russia would never leave Crimea.
