In the referendum on Moldova's accession to the European Union, the results were very close.
The initial vote ratio was 58.09% against and 41.3% for.
However, as the votes were counted, the gap narrowed, RIA Novosti writes.
The Central Electoral Commission reported that in the end the number of votes was almost equally divided - 50% each.
There were 88 more supporters of joining. The idea of joining was supported by 721,760 voters, while 721,672 people voted against.
Moldovan citizens answered the question: “Do you support changing the constitution to allow the Republic of Moldova to join the European Union?”
At the same time as the referendum, presidential elections were held in the country.
After processing 95% of the protocols, the commission announced that the current President Maia Sandu is in the lead. Former Prosecutor General Alexandru Stoianoglo received 27.63%.
In Moldova, both events were recognized as having taken place, since the required limit of votes was recorded.
