The Muftiate of Dagestan has imposed a temporary ban on wearing niqabs.
The measure of the Muftiate of Dagestan is introduced on the basis of a decision of the fatwa department.
According to the deputy mufti of Dagestan, Abdulla Salimov, the ban was adopted due to the potential threat to the security of the republic’s population.
He announced this in a video message published on Wednesday by the republic’s muftiate on the Telegram channel.
The decision will remain in effect until the identified threats are eliminated and a new theological opinion is issued.
The Muftiate of Dagestan has nevertheless decided to temporarily ban niqabs, despite its previous refusal.
The mufti, citing an appeal from the Ministry of National Policy and Religious Affairs, announced the temporary ban on Wednesday, July 3.
The ban on wearing niqabs was adopted on the basis of a competent opinion issued by the Fatwa Department.
Earlier, Bastrykin proposed banning niqabs in Russia.
