The press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov gave a comment on the Pentagon's statement about the conditions for exchanging nuclear strikes.
He called on Western states not to make provocative statements.
Russia advocates preventing a nuclear war and is against any provocative statements, the RBC article emphasizes.
Peskov responded in this way to the statement by the representative of the US Strategic Command, Rear Admiral Thomas Buchanan, about readiness for an exchange of nuclear strikes.
The Kremlin emphasized that Russia is making every effort to prevent a nuclear conflict.
Peskov stressed: “In the context of the nuclear doctrine, Russia takes a responsible position of escalation.”
Russia, according to a Kremlin spokesman, is calling on other countries to take a similar position.
Previously, the Pentagon had not ruled out an exchange of nuclear strikes on terms acceptable to the United States.
They explained that an exchange of nuclear strikes, if necessary, is possible if the country retains part of its arsenal to deter the enemy.
