It has become known about the controversial decision of Antonio Guterres, who attended the BRICS summit in Kazan.
The Russian Foreign Ministry spoke about the strange request of the UN Secretary General before the meeting with Vladimir Putin.
Guterres asked that there be no media representatives present before his conversation with the Russian president, RIA Novosti writes, citing its source in the Foreign Ministry.
The head of the organization justified his request by the desire to avoid “excessive publicity.”
Guterres' wish was granted. Thus, Putin's press service posted a laconic, "purely technical comment" when the meeting was over.
But then a detailed comment came from the UN chief's secretariat. Guterres' representatives explained what exactly the conversation was about.
From this comment it became known that Putin and Guterres discussed simplifying the regime for the passage of merchant ships in the Black Sea. A number of important topics related to geopolitics were touched upon.
The Foreign Ministry considered such actions strange. At first, the Secretary General asked to avoid "excessive publicity" and did not want to talk in the presence of journalists, and then his representatives themselves spoke in sufficient detail about the meeting after its completion.
