The Russian department admitted that Moscow could completely sever diplomatic relations with Washington.
There is no talk of this yet, but the preconditions for this are emerging, said Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov.
The department representative identified two conditions that could lead to a complete freeze in Russian-American relations, Interfax reports.
Firstly, the issue of Russian assets remains relevant.
The confiscation of frozen assets will trigger a number of consequences, including the severance of diplomatic relations.
The second nuance concerns the military-political confrontation. If the US continues to do everything to escalate the conflict, then Moscow will have to cease diplomatic relations with Washington.
If the United States unfreezes assets and begins working to resolve the geopolitical conflict, then relations will stabilize, the diplomat concluded.
But, according to Ryabkov, everything is currently heading towards a deterioration in relations. There are those in the West who enthusiastically discuss the possibility of escalation.
There are also those who look at what is happening with concern, understanding what all this could lead to, the Foreign Ministry representative emphasized.
