The Russian Foreign Ministry is monitoring the West's reaction to Moscow's plans to make changes to its nuclear policy.
Deputy head of the department Sergei Ryabkov shared a comment on this topic.
At this stage, it is not yet possible to give a full assessment of how the West perceived Vladimir Putin’s decision, RIA Novosti reports.
But the first reaction is recorded by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. “It is quite detailed,” Ryabkov emphasized.
The USA, Germany, Italy and other countries expressed their position.
Moscow believes that this decision will influence Western leaders and force them to take a different look at their policies regarding Russia and the conflict.
Ryabkov reported that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will record the final reaction and results after they issue a decree that will approve the “Fundamentals of State Policy in the Sphere of Nuclear Deterrence.”
According to him, after this it will be possible to fully discuss the perception of Moscow’s decision in the world, particularly in the West.
This week, Vladimir Putin proposed changes to the Russian nuclear doctrine.
Moscow believes that the document needs to be updated. The doctrine must meet the challenges of the modern world, the Kremlin is confident.
