A State Duma deputy commented on Estonia's new plans concerning Russia and its navy.
First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Alexey Chepa stated that Tallinn’s desire to limit Russia will fail.
Estonia wanted to ban the Russian fleet from using the Gulf of Finland. Tallinn proposed that Finland work on this measure together.
In a conversation with Lenta.ru , Chepa indicated that this is “absolutely impossible.” These countries do not have the legal instruments to implement this initiative.
The Russian fleet will continue to move through the Baltic Sea, and it is “stupid even to talk about Estonia’s plans,” the parliamentarian believes.
The Commander of the Estonian Defense Forces, Andrus Merilo, proposed developing a plan to completely ban the movement of the Russian fleet in the Gulf of Finland.
He believes that Tallinn and Helsinki should jointly develop a project prohibiting Russia from entering the Baltic Sea.
Its closure may occur in the event of danger, Merilo emphasized.
