The Georgian Prime Minister said that the circumstances of the 2008 Russian-Georgian conflict should be investigated.
Irakli Kobakhidze admitted that the country's authorities will appeal to the prosecutor's office and the Constitutional Court of the republic on this matter.
Tbilisi may also create a parliamentary investigative commission on this issue, TASS reports.
The government will choose the legal norm, but the key issue is different, Kobakhidze emphasized.
“Society will learn about all of this, the main thing is that this crime must be investigated,” the prime minister said on the 16th anniversary of the conflict between Russia and Georgia.
According to Kobakhidze, responsibility for the crime committed lies with Mikheil Saakashvili, who was the head of state at the time.
Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili added that members of a short-sighted party were in power at the time.
He is sure that the conflict could have been avoided. Georgia would not have lost 400 soldiers and civilians killed, and Abkhazia and South Ossetia would have remained part of the republic, Papuashvili believes.
