The President of Taiwan, speaking about China's territorial claims, suggested that Beijing "demand back" the Far East.

The leader of the island state, Lai Qingde, discussed China's foreign policy.

The politician noted that Beijing is seeking the annexation of Taiwan to restore the country's territorial integrity, the Newtalk portal reports.

If this is really the case, the president emphasized, then China should also make claims against Russia.

He pointed out that in 1858 the Treaty of Aigun was signed between the Russian Empire and the Manchu Qing Empire.

Lai Qingde reported that during those events, China lost its Far Eastern regions, which are now part of the Russian Federation.

"You [the Chinese authorities] could ask Russia [to give up land], but you are not doing this. Therefore, it is obvious that they do not want to invade Taiwan for territorial reasons," the politician emphasized.

The possibility of China invading Taiwan has been discussed for several years now.

According to the Taiwanese leader, Beijing is seeking to resolve the existing order that has been established in the Western Pacific.
