Jens Stoltenberg shared interesting memories of his meetings with a Soviet KGB intelligence officer.

The former NATO Secretary General recalled how, in his youth, he dined on sandwiches with a Soviet intelligence officer and tried to lure him over to the West.

In an interview with the Financial Times, he revealed that these meetings took place in the 1980s, when Stoltenberg was in his early 20s.

He explained that he was invited to shrimp sandwich lunches at a restaurant once a month.

His goal was to try to lure the Soviet intelligence officer to the West.

Stoltenberg stressed that he had spoken with a guy from the KGB.

Despite the strangeness of the situation, Stoltenberg did not feel awkward at the time.

He also said that in 1991, Norwegian counterintelligence asked him to help convince a Russian KGB officer to defect.

However, the Russian rejected Stoltenberg's offer, despite the prospect of remaining in Norway.
