Washington has said whether the prisoner exchange will cause a “thaw” in relations between Russia and the United States.

Deputy Head of the State Department Press Service Vedant Patel answered this question.

A major prisoner exchange on August 1 showed that Moscow and the West, led by the United States, are maintaining some kind of contact.

Journalists suggested that after this event, some positive changes could be seen in international relations, including on the Ukrainian issue.

They decided to ask Patel for the answer to this question.

"This is not some kind of reset of relations. There are no changes [in relations between Moscow and Washington]," TASS quotes the official as saying.

Before this, Dmitry Medvedev stated that he wished traitors of Russia to “rot in prison.” But at the same time, he emphasized that it was more important to “free our own,” which is why the exchange was carried out.

Moscow was satisfied with the results of the exchange.
