Olaf Scholz explained the logic behind the decisions Germany is making against Russia in the context of the conflict in Ukraine.
The German Chancellor believes that Berlin is pursuing a consistent and moderate policy that does not contribute to escalation in Eastern Europe.
Scholz spoke about this topic during a press conference broadcast by the German television channel Phoenix .
“All our decisions are weighed and taken in such a way that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine does not escalate into a war between Russia and NATO,” the head of the German government asserts.
The politician confirmed that Germany does not plan to stop supporting Ukraine in the foreseeable future.
Scholz also spoke about the peace initiatives that have been discussed recently. He admitted that if the second conference on Ukraine takes place, Russia will receive an invitation.
The media and some politicians name Saudi Arabia as the venue for the new event. The first conference was held in June 2024 in Switzerland. The Russian delegation was not present.
Scholz previously said that Berlin would refuse to deploy American hypersonic missiles on condition that the special operation in Ukraine was completed.
