President Maia Sandu said that Moldova had to impose sanctions against Russia.
She explained that otherwise the country risked falling under sanctions from Western partners.
Sandu stressed that without these measures, the entire banking system and economy could be under threat of sanctions, RIA Novosti writes.
According to her, Moldovan economic agents need integration into the global banking system, and not a sanctioned Moldova.
The current president's opponent in the elections, Alexander Stoianoglo, in turn, noted that the introduction of sanctions deprived Moldovans of markets and cheap energy resources.
Earlier, Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi reported that the republic supported 80% of European economic sanctions against the Russian Federation.
Sandu stressed that European partners need the Moldovan banking system to be part of the global system, and not to be isolated due to sanctions.
