56.82% of the country's 3.2 million residents approved of the country's accession to the United States.

30.85% voted for independence. Another 12.33% wanted to maintain the current status.

Under him, Puerto Rico is not a US state, but the territory is under Washington's control.

Thus, the majority voted in favor of full accession to the North American state and receiving the status of the 51st state.

Puerto Ricans have U.S. citizenship, but they cannot vote in U.S. presidential elections.
