Vladimir Putin responded to Alexander Lukashenko’s proposal regarding the Oreshnik missile system.
On Friday, December 6, the presidents of Russia and Belarus signed an agreement on security guarantees.
Lukashenko proposed deploying new Russian Oreshnik missile systems on the territory of the republic, RIA Novosti reports.
Putin supported this proposal. He said that this could be implemented within the framework of the signed agreement.
The Russian leader admitted that these systems will appear on the territory of Belarus as early as the second half of 2025.
This will become possible as serial production of the installations increases, Putin emphasized.
He also added that if a situation arises in which it is necessary to use the Oreshnik, the targets for the strike will be chosen by the military-political leadership of Belarus.
Two weeks ago, the Oreshnik was used for the first time to strike a target. Then, in a special address to the Russians, Putin announced the successful testing of this weapon.
