Russia has named the condition under which it is ready to lift sanctions against Marco Rubio, nominated by Donald Trump for the post of Secretary of State.
According to the press secretary of the Russian president, Dmitry Peskov, this will not happen as long as the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov, remains under sanctions.
This will not happen while Sergei Lavrov is under sanctions, TASS emphasizes, citing Peskov’s statement.
He stressed: “Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov is also under sanctions.”
Peskov explained that the process of lifting sanctions must be mutual.
Florida Senator Rubio is reportedly on Russia's sanctions list with a ban on entry into the country.
The politician is known for his criticism of China, Cuba and Iran.
President-elect Trump has nominated Rubio to serve as Secretary of State in his new administration.
He believes the senator will be a strong defender of the United States.
