According to Bloomberg, Viktor Orban has threatened to veto the EU budget if Hungary does not receive the allocated funds.
The Hungarian prime minister was referring to the next seven-year EU budget from 2028.
Approval of the document is only possible with a unanimous decision by 27 member states, the Bloomberg article emphasizes.
Orbank is said to have a history of delaying joint decisions by the bloc.
Hungary will certainly receive these funds, Orban said on state radio.
He stressed that Hungary will receive the funds not received in 2025-2026 in 2027-2028, or there will be no EU budget.
Orban explained that he would use his veto power when agreeing on the EU budget.
Investors believe the EU currently holds around €20 billion from Hungary.
Moody's Ratings has cut its outlook on Hungary's debt levels to negative as the government's chances of unlocking frozen EU funds fade.
