Jens Stoltenberg said whether anything will change in NATO policy after changes are made to the Russian nuclear doctrine.
The outgoing NATO Secretary General said that Moscow's decision will not in any way affect the West and its allies.
Stoltenberg stressed that NATO representatives had analyzed the list of changes and saw no reason for changes that would be required on the part of the alliance.
He called on his colleagues not to change policy and not to panic in the face of Moscow's "nuclear rhetoric," Reuters reports.
According to the official, Russia will not be able to respond to the West’s policies in any way.
Stoltenberg pointed out that Moscow had previously tried to force NATO to change some of its decisions, but to no avail. This time, the head of the alliance believes, it will be the same.
On October 1, Stoltenberg will step down as Secretary General, a post he has held for 10 years. His successor will be Dutch politician Mark Rutte.
