Maria Zakharova commented on the information that the Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov will soon return to Moscow.
The official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not confirm or deny this information.
69-year-old Anatoly Antonov heads the Russian diplomatic mission to the United States. The media learned the day before that the ambassador would allegedly soon return to the Russian Federation.
The press refers to a copy of the address in which Antonov allegedly wrote about the end of his mission.
But at the same time, the ambassador expressed hope that he would continue to serve the Fatherland in the field of diplomacy together with his colleagues.
Journalists decided to clarify this information with Maria Zakharova. In a comment to TASS, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that "everyone can have their own personal plans."
The issue of appointing and replacing members of the diplomatic mission is within the competence of the President of Russia. Therefore, the situation with the Russian Ambassador to the USA will be decided by Vladimir Putin.
Antonov has been representing Moscow's interests in the United States since August 2017.
Earlier, US Ambassador Lynne Tracy said that the goal of sanctions against Russia was to weaken the military-industrial complex.
