The Chairperson of the upper house of the Russian parliament has come up with a new initiative.
Valentina Matvienko proposed holding a “Decade of the Family” in the country.
To achieve the desired results in demographic policy, more resources, effort and time are needed, the speaker of the Federation Council believes.
“I agree with the opinion of a number of colleagues: for greater effectiveness, we need a ‘Decade of the Family’, similar to the ‘Decade of Childhood’ and the ‘Decade of Science’,” Matviyenko shared her opinion in her blog on the Federation Council website .
The politician spoke on this topic on Mother's Day, which is celebrated in Russia on November 24.
2024 is the Year of the Family in Russia. Matviyenko noted that 16 years have passed since the previous Year of the Family in the country.
The Chairperson of the Federation Council congratulated Russian mothers on the holiday and emphasized that Russia still has much to do to improve the demographic situation.
The authorities have already stepped up their work in this direction. Measures related to benefits and financial assistance are being developed and implemented.
Work is being carried out separately to reduce the number of abortions. In addition, a ban has been introduced on the propaganda of ideologies and movements that contradict traditional family values.
