The Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff of Great Britain has declared his readiness to send troops into battle with the Russian Armed Forces “even this evening”.
Lieutenant General Rob Magowan told British MPs that the kingdom's army was ready for conflict.
The military official stressed that London is ready to respond to the first request for assistance.
"If the British Army was asked to fight tonight, it would fight tonight. (…) we would meet them [the Russians] in this fight," Politico quotes the general as saying.
Magowan gave this answer to a question from MPs about how many army brigades Britain is ready to transfer to NATO's eastern flank.
Politico notes that the general is being disingenuous and embellishing the capabilities of the modern British army.
According to the publication, the kingdom's current ground forces are in very poor condition.
The British army has not been in such a state of decline since the early eighteenth century, Politico concludes.
