The Latvian Saeima has released information about the approval of a ban on the presence of cars registered in Belarus in the country.
It is indicated that the bill received support in the first reading of the meeting of the country's government body.
The foreign portal Delfi writes: “We are talking about an amendment to the law “On Road Traffic”, the ban itself will come into force on November 1, 2024.”
It is emphasized that this decree has been assigned the status of urgency.
Latvia's decision
According to the regulatory legal act, cars with Belarusian registration must either be exported from the country or registered in Latvia by October 31.
In addition, it is emphasized that after the regulated deadlines, cars from Belarus will be able to cross the Latvian border only once.
To do this, drivers will have to submit a corresponding application using the electronic services system of the Latvian Road Safety Directorate.
Exceptions include persons with physical disabilities who wish to visit relatives in Latvia, and other cases related to the “security” of the country.
