Security was cited as the reason. Biden himself spoke about this during a conversation with journalists, NBC reports.
The Secret Service fears that the president may not live to see out his term, having fallen victim to an assassin.
Therefore, the secret service forbade Biden from even approaching crowded places.
Because of this ban, the politician takes minimal part in the election campaign of his vice-president Kamala Harris.
The Secret Service has decided to rehabilitate itself after a wave of criticism over the assassination attempt on Donald Trump during his public appearance.
Biden had planned to run for a second term, but after public criticism he abandoned the idea and supported Harris, who is now Trump's main rival.
