Italian journalists illegally entered Russian territory to cover events in the Kursk region.
The Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Italian Ambassador Cecilia Piccioni and expressed a strong protest in connection with the activities of the employees of the Rai television and radio company.
This was reported on the department’s website on Friday, August 16.
Moscow stressed that the EU and NATO reporters had "grossly" violated Russian legislation and ignored journalistic ethics rules.
These actions fall under the article of the Criminal Code of Russia, the Russian Foreign Ministry indicated.
A protest was lodged with the Italian diplomatic representative, and the actions of the Rai employees have yet to be assessed from a legal perspective.
The Foreign Ministry admitted that Italian journalists could be held accountable. The competent authorities are currently establishing all the circumstances of this case.
