A NATO-like force needs to be created in the Middle East to contain Iran, says Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The politician sent his proposal to American politicians during a speech in the US Congress on Wednesday, July 24.
Netanyahu noted that the North Atlantic Alliance was created after World War II to contain the “Soviet threat,” RIA Novosti reports.
Now there is a need to create a NATO analogue in the Middle East to fight Iran, Netanyahu argues.
The proposed unification should be based on Israel and the United States, the politician says.
The alliance will then expand to include those countries that “normalize relations” with Tel Aviv. In this case, the state will receive an invitation to join the military-political union.
Netanyahu stressed that the demilitarization of Gaza and the victory over the radicals will lead to the establishment of peace in the region.
And the newly created alliance will support him against the backdrop of the “growing threat” from Iran, the Israeli prime minister concluded.
