The incident has caused concern in both countries.

Germany and Finland have initiated an investigation.

The authorities of these countries are trying to understand what exactly led to the damage to the underwater telecommunications cable in the Baltic Sea, the German Foreign Ministry website reports.

On Monday, November 18, it became known that the 1,000-kilometer cable connecting these countries was cut.

Berlin suspects that the damage was deliberate.

According to German authorities, such a guess "speaks to the instability of our times."

The parties said a "thorough investigation" was underway.
