Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili has stated that she will not leave her post.
She said in a video address that the illegitimate parliament does not have the authority to elect a new president.
I remain your president of Georgia because of the illegitimate parliament, she said.
The President, as follows from the address, emphasized that there can be no inauguration, and her mandate will be in effect until new legal elections.
Zurabishvili, who supported the protests in the country, announced her intention to be at the head of political processes.
She explained that her mandate would continue until a successor was legally elected.
The republic's State Security Service at the same time warned against a violent seizure of power in the country.
The Georgian Interior Ministry said that opposition protests resumed after Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze's decision to suspend negotiations on the country's EU membership until 2028.
