The Georgian Prime Minister warned Salome Zurabishvili against plans to call new parliamentary elections.

Irakli Kobakhidze stated that the current president of the republic may face criminal liability.

The politician reported that on Saturday, December 21, Zurabishvili held a meeting with opposition members, TASS reports.

Representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) also participated in this event.

The key topic was the parliamentary elections. The participants of the meeting discussed the possibility of calling new elections.

Zurabishvili was determined, but at the last moment she was dissuaded from this idea, the prime minister said.

The President took one day to think it over again.

Kobakhidze emphasized that in Georgia it is possible to hold repeat extraordinary parliamentary elections only in 3 cases.

But now there are no conditions for any of them, the politician pointed out.

The decision to call new elections would be contrary to the constitution, which would be grounds for bringing Zurabishvili to criminal responsibility.

“We’ll see where she [Zurabishvili] will continue to live, behind bars or at large,” the prime minister noted.

The last parliamentary elections were held in Georgia on October 26 and ended with the victory of the ruling party "Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia".
