The Chairman of the Georgian Parliament criticized the actions of his ally.
Shalva Papuashvili made a statement after the US decided to impose sanctions against Tbilisi.
The parliamentarian’s words are quoted by Sputnik Georgia on its Telegram channel.
Papuashvili compared Washington's sanctions to an attack on the republic.
The politician stressed that relations with the United States can be reset only after the accusations leveled against Georgia and the country's residents are dropped.
Part of them are sanctions, Papuashvili pointed out. He singled out the police officers against whom restrictions were imposed.
The speaker of parliament noted that a police officer in any country is the face of the state and its representative.
“Therefore, any attack on a police officer is an attack on the state,” the speaker of parliament said.
Georgia has come under US sanctions due to the adoption of the law on foreign agents and other decisions that have drawn criticism from the EU and Washington.
