Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has downgraded the status of President Salome Zurabishvili.

He stated that Georgia does not recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia, as is the case with Zurabishvili, whose term expires on December 29.

Kobakhidze also said that the country cannot have several presidents at the same time, the newspaper Vzglyad reports.

The head of the Georgian cabinet recalled that in such cases Italians say “finita la commedia”.

He explained that Zurabishvili would have to leave the presidential palace.

President Mikheil Kavelashvili, elected by parliament, will take her place.

On December 14, Georgia held presidential elections under a new system. For the first time in the country, the president was elected not by citizens, but by an electoral college of 300 deputies.

The current president, Salome Zurabishvili, responded to this by saying that no one elected anyone and called for not recognizing the legitimacy of the past vote.
