The head of the energy think tank Nomisma Energia, Davide Tabarelli, stated that the EU cannot refuse gas transit from Russia.
According to Tabarelli, Europe is not ready for Ukraine to cancel the relevant agreement.
The expert explained: “The supply of Russian energy resources served as a guarantee in the event of a harsh winter,” as reported by RIA Novosti .
According to the analyst, European countries are not ready to refuse transit of Russian gas and, accordingly, to the subsequent price jump.
The real state of affairs
Tabarelli also noted that, despite the Ukrainian crisis, gas supplies from Russia remained important over the next two winters.
The total cancellation of the gas transfer, as the expert emphasized, will make the already difficult situation a stalemate.
The analyst added: "Prices are already in the 40 euros per megawatt hour range. That's better than two years ago, but still noticeable. That's not good news."
Earlier, Deputy Head of the Russian Foreign Ministry Mikhail Galuzin emphasized that Russia will cooperate in matters of energy supply with those countries that are interested in this.
