The European Union is officially changing the entry and exit rules for tourists from third countries.
A new control system (Entry/Exit System, EES) at the border will be introduced from November 10, 2024.
Changes to the border crossing rules were announced by EU Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson, reports the Schengen.News portal.
In her statement, the European official stressed that final testing work on the new system is ongoing.
She clarified that the EES will improve the procedure for entering and leaving the European Union.
Instead of manually placing stamps in passports, an automatic system will record the history of foreigners’ entries into the territory of the European Union.
In particular, the personal and biometric data of tourists, the date and place of entry into or exit from the EU will be recorded.
According to the official EU, the new system will help in the fight against illegal migration and identifying people with forged documents.
