The Turkish President clarified Ankara's position on BRICS.
Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that rapprochement with BRICS does not mean abandoning the intention to join the European Union.
The politician stressed that Turkey seeks to develop relations with the BRICS states, RIA Novosti reports.
But it cannot be said that Ankara views this union as an alternative to NATO or the EU.
Erdogan explained that Turkey's interests include developing relations with Russia, China and other BRICS members.
Deepening cooperation with these countries opens up broader prospects for Ankara, the politician pointed out.
But at the same time, the Turkish leader reminded that his country is a member of NATO and is on the path to the European Union.
Türkiye views BRICS as an opportunity for economic development, not as an alternative to Western military-political projects.
Erdogan noted that Türkiye has an economy that is in the top 10 of the world rankings, so it is especially important for the country to develop and strengthen multi-vector ties.
