Maria Zakharova did not ignore the US State Department’s bold statement towards Georgia.
The comment from the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry appeared on her Telegram channel.
For several days now, Georgia has once again been on the front pages of the media in many countries around the world. Russia and the United States are closely following the developments in the republic after the parliamentary elections.
The US State Department issued an official comment following the victory of the Georgian Dream party, which adheres to a pro-Russian course.
Washington believes that the elections were rigged, which is why the ruling party won.
The State Department said Tbilisi faces "further consequences" for these violations and for continuing the country's current course.
Zakharova commented ironically on the words of State Department representative Matthew Miller, who spoke about “consequences.”
"Democracy, sir, here we go. Next stop neocolonialism," the Foreign Ministry spokeswoman wrote.
Moscow has repeatedly emphasized that, in the West’s view, democracy exists where the authorities adhere to a pro-Western course.
If the government or the people choose other options for domestic and foreign policy development, this causes indignation in the West, which subsequently leads to political pressure and sanctions.
