Prime Minister Keir Starmer has removed a portrait of William Shakespeare from his Downing Street residence.
The 18th century portrait of the Bard was removed and placed into storage.
The prime minister also removed portraits of Queen Elizabeth I Tudor, English traveller Sir Walter Raleigh, and former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher from his residence, The Telegraph writes.
The Shakespeare painting depicted here was painted by Louis François Roubiliac.
The portrait of the famous writer is part of the government's art collection.
Incoming prime ministers are said to have the right to use the collection to decorate Downing Street at their discretion.
The residence said that it does not comment on the interior layout, but expects changes from new government officials.
Many of Shakespeare's plays were written during the reign of Elizabeth I. However, her portrait was also removed from the Downing Street residence.
