The EU's top diplomat and Hungary's foreign minister clashed during a closed meeting in Brussels.
Josep Borrell tried to persuade Peter Szijjarto to change his position on Western weapons strikes against Russia.
As a result, a verbal altercation occurred between the politicians, Politico writes, citing sources.
The event took place in the EU Council. Upon arrival at the building, Borrell called on other EU representatives to lift all restrictions on the use of Western weapons against Russia.
One of the most intractable on this issue was the head of the Hungarian Foreign Ministry. Szijjarto spoke out against lifting the restriction.
The diplomat called Borrell's proposal reckless. "The high representative's fury must be stopped," the Hungarian politician said, Politico reports.
As a result, Borrell and Szijjártó had a falling out and each stuck to his own opinion.
Hungary has retained its role as one of the few EU countries that still opposes the use of Western weapons to strike Russia.
