According to Financial Times records, during his rule in Syria, Bashar al-Assad transferred about $250 million in cash to Russia.

The transfers were carried out between March 2018 and September 2019.

Almost two tons of $100 and €500 bills were delivered from the Syrian Central Bank to Moscow's Vnukovo Airport, the Financial Times reported.

During the entire specified period, 21 flights were made, carrying cargo worth $250 million.

The money was apparently deposited in Russian banks.

In addition to providing military support, Russia has also allegedly become a repository for Assad's funds.

Some of this money could have been used to purchase luxury real estate in Moscow through intermediaries.

At the same time, the Syrian economy collapsed. The Assad family continued to control key sectors of the economy.

According to Western experts, Assad would have had to move his money abroad to a safe place in order to be able to use it.
